Our mission: To make your experience in the Law School unforgettable.
Welcome to 2012 in the University of Adelaide Law School, and consequently your membership in the Adelaide University Law Students’ Society (AULSS). You have joined a school that boasts outstanding academic achievement, a rich history and vibrant student life. We hope that over the course of 2012 you will get to know all of us on the current AULSS committee, and feel comfortable in approaching us. Our monthly newsletters should ensure that you’re always up to date with what is going on around the Law School.
As a committee, we believe that your experience in the Law School is more than just about getting your degree. Personally, my involvement with the LSS has given me a greater connection with the University and with students I wouldn’t have otherwise met. As President of the LSS, I want you to find a career path which suits you; to have the time of your life at the Law Ball and all our other events; to enjoy reading the quarterly student magazine The Hilarian; to learn through competing at a high level in competitions; to achieve your absolute best academically; and to be supported by a committee who you can look to as your personal network.
Not only should this enable you to get the most out of your time at university, but it is also guaranteed to make you more competitive as a law graduate, however far away that may be. Each year thousands of law students graduate Australia-wide, making it increasingly important for students to stand out from the masses. It is now commonplace for recruiters to place more emphasis on a resumé which demonstrates participation in competitions, volunteer work and vacation clerkships with law firms as opposed to one which shows good grades but not much else.
Our committee for 2012 is approachable, motivated and friendly. We encompass students from every year level, from many different backgrounds and with many different expertise and interests. We are all enthusiastic and look forward to working together as a unified team for the entirety of 2012 to make sure we achieve our objectives.
On behalf of the 2012 committee, I welcome old and new students to the Law School for 2012. I encourage you all to get involved and pursue the wide range of opportunities the LSS has on offer. Get to know your peers –they will be your future colleagues! I also hope that you will feel comfortable approaching any of us and asking any questions you may have. We are all also contactable via email. Please browse this website and our Facebook page for more information. I hope that I will meet you soon!
