Being hosted in Adelaide this year, the 2010 Australian Law Students’ Association (ALSA) Conference is a unique opportunity for Adelaide Law students to attend as General Delegates.

The Conference will see over 500 law students converge to attend the biggest social events, most prestigious competitions, and most stimulating educational forums. Delegates will attend the Opening Gala Dinner, Cocktail Night, Themed Night, and Closing Gala Dinner as well as a battle of the bands, movie nights, quiz nights, wine tours, brewery tours, the Amazing Race Adelaide. There will also be educational forums on pressing legal issues – animal law, global poverty, refugee law and responding to international conflict.

Registration for general delegates closes on June 5.

On [...]]]> While the first instalment of the LSS’ Social Justice Breakfast Series ‘The Bikie Laws Breakfast’ has sold out, you can get your hit of social justice oration by attending one of the free Hawke Centre public letures on social justice.

Her Honour Justice Robyn Layton will be delivering the 2010 Catherine Helen Spence Commemorative Oration. On the topic ‘Law and Social Justice: Is it all Rhetoric’, the speech is to be held on Wednesday 28 April at 6pm at the Uni SA City West Campus.

Julian Burnside AO QC, senior counsel for Liberty in Victoria in the Tampa litigation will argue in favour of a Federal Bill. Jeremy Moore, lawyer for Mr Al-Kafaji, is not convinced Australia needs a Federal Bill. The University of Adelaide’s Gabrielle Appleby will introduce and moderate the discussion and debate.

The debate will be followed by open discussion.

To be held on Sunday 11 October at 2pm in Elder Hall, North Terrace, University of Adelaide.
